Gently remove the battery covers and pour distilled water in the battery. Make sure the water is not overfilled and it is poured inside the battery securely. Wait for the water to reach the end of the refill hole. Never try to overfill into the fill holes.
Check the Charge & Condition of the Battery:
For this, you should test the electrolyte in each cell. You squeeze the ball and draw the solution in the battery tester. Then hold the tester with much care and record the reading on a paper. You then squirt the solution back into the small cell. The testers are calibrated assuming a battery is at 80 degrees F. You add .04 to each reading for 10 degrees above 80 and subtract .04 for every 10 degrees below. A battery that is fully charged should have a reading of 1.265 or higher. If all the readings show fair or low (as 1.200 is low if you get it) but are stable, you need to recharge the battery.
Clean The Battery Terminals With A Wire Brush:
After a few months, acid build-ups can be seen on the battery terminals. These acid build ups are very pernicious for the battery life and can erode it secretively. So after every 4-6 months, inspect your battery for these type of acid build-ups and remove them with a wire brush scrub after applying a gentle scrub. Then bathe these terminals with the mixture of baking soda and distilled water. This type of solution will clean the terminals of acid remnants. After this, apply grease to protect the battery terminals from corrosion and rust.
